What is White Directory, Inc, and The Talking
Phone Book®?
From a small, one directory operation employing 15 people and printing 500,000
copies of the telephone book in 1968, White Directory Publishers has grown to
become what Directory World Magazine recently called "One of the largest, most
successful, and most respected , independent telephone directory publishers
in the United States". During this time period White Directory has won more
industry awards than any other Yellow Page Publisher in America. At present
White Directory publishes directories for 55 cities in 11 states. White Directory
employs over 550 people, over 300 of them in Western New York.

Where did the name, "The Talking Phone Book®", come from?
When White Directory Publishers was celebrating their 20th Anniversary in
1988, they changed the branding of the directory to The Talking Phone Book®.
With the branding name change to the directory they added a residential white
page listings and audio text, or talking yellow pages. Since 1986 White Directory
has gone from producing 1 directory to over 55 directories in the U.S.

Where does White Directory get their white page listings?
The Talking Phone Book® purchases all white page listings from the local
telephone company and Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs). The Talking
Phone Book® uses the most up-to-date information that is available at the
time the directories are printed. The Talking Phone Book®'s white page listings
are at least as up to date as the telephone company's because the listing information
is requested immediately after the telephone company's listing close date. In
some cases The Talking Phone Book®'s directories are even more up-to-date
than the telephone company's directory, depending on production date.

What is a prototype directory?
When The Talking Phone Book® enters a new market, we sometimes produce
a prototype directory. A prototype directory contains the majority of the local
telephone company advertisers absolutely free of charge. This allows advertisers
to test the results of the Talking Phone Book® at no cost. The increased
results cause advertisers to renew their ads.The directory also contains larger
white pages print and many local features not found in the telephone company
directory; including audio text, (talking information lines), coupons, zip codes
and much more.
